Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), expressed his dismay over lawyers discussing the President Bola Tinubu's Chicago State University (CSU) matter on national television. He criticized what he referred to as a cacophony of discordant voices surrounding the controversy over CSU records involving Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Agbakoba cautioned that armchair lawyers are dangerously heating up the situation in Nigeria.
In a social media post, Agbakoba urged individuals to refrain from sharing their opinions and views publicly and instead await a decision from the Supreme Court. He voiced his embarrassment at seeing lawyers on television debating the merits or demerits of the CSU matter, describing it as unhelpful.
Agbakoba also called on the media to refrain from adjudicating the CSU matter on TV and in newspapers. He urged the President of the Nigerian Bar Association to address lawyers who breach ethical rules by turning the media into a court of law.
In conclusion, Agbakoba emphasized the importance of allowing the Supreme Court of Nigeria to make a judicial pronouncement that would be binding on everyone and urged an end to the public discourse on the matter
