The Senate has postponed the screening of ministerial nominees to allow additional time for documentation. The screening is rescheduled for October 30, 2024. This decision follows a request from President Tinubu for the Senate's confirmation of seven nominees for key ministerial positions in his administration.
The Nigerian Senate has announced the postponement of the screening for ministerial nominees, which was originally scheduled for today. The decision to delay the screening until October 30, 2024, was made to allow nominees additional time to finalize their necessary documentation and complete pre-screening processes.
In a statement released by Senator Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, the Senate emphasized the importance of thorough preparation before the screening. The statement, titled “Postponement of Ministerial Screening,” assured the public that all nominees would have the opportunity to finalize their documentation ahead of the new screening date.
Senator Lado noted, “The scheduled screening of ministerial nominees has been postponed by the Senate to allow all nominees to conclude all aspects of documentation and pre-screening exercises.” The new screening is set for Wednesday at noon.
Previously, Senator Lado had confirmed on Monday that the screening would begin today, with nominees already submitting relevant documents in anticipation of their confirmation by the Senate, in line with Section 147 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
President Bola Tinubu has sought the Senate’s approval for seven ministerial nominees, including Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda and Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, among others, with the expectation that the Senate will expedite the consideration of these appointments.
