Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed sympathy for motorists who endure the pain and hardship of traveling on the deplorable Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta expressway. He conveyed this sentiment after being stuck in traffic for over two hours on this road while attending the 2023 Yewa Cultural Festival in Ilaro, Ogun State.

Akpabio's first-hand experience of the road's conditions prompted him to pledge support from the Senate for the reconstruction of the road, as well as other dilapidated federal roads in Ogun State.

He said, "When I was coming, I decided to pass through the Lagos-Abeokuta, Papalanto-Ilaro road to experience the pain you people are facing on the road."

Senate President Akpabio expressed empathy for the challenges that the local residents face daily due to the poor road conditions, and he promised that "your roads are done."

Furthermore, Akpabio encouraged the use of experienced contractors for the road rehabilitation, acknowledging the importance of these roads for the region's economic development.

Meanwhile, Governor Abiodun appealed to the Senate to help transfer the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Road to the state, emphasizing its significance for socio-economic development.

The governor also shared plans for the reconstruction of other critical roads in the state, seeking support from the Federal Government to transfer the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Road project to Ogun State.

This visit to the region was notable as Akpabio was conferred with the chieftaincy title of 'Fiwagboye' of Yewaland by the Yewa Traditional Council. He also encouraged the youth to avoid drugs and fraudulent activities, assuring them of a better future when they remain clean
