The Nigerian Senate has taken action following the tragic death of Ms. Greatness Olorunfemi, a victim of a "one chance" criminal attack. The Senate has summoned key officials including the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Ministers of Health and the Federal Capital Territory, Ali Pate and Nyesom Wike, respectively, to address the circumstances surrounding her demise at Maitama General Hospital.
Ms. Olorunfemi was thrown out of a vehicle she had boarded along the Maitama/Kubwa Highway by criminals who later rushed her to Maitama General Hospital. Shockingly, the hospital refused to provide medical assistance to her due to the absence of a police report.
Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong sponsored a motion in the Senate to address this troubling incident. As a result, Senate committees responsible for health and police affairs have been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into Ms. Olorunfemi's death. The Senate is also calling for legal action against Maitama General Hospital for potential manslaughter charges.
This case underscores the urgency of addressing issues related to public safety and the response of healthcare facilities to emergencies in Nigeria. The Senate is committed to ensuring accountability and justice in this matter
