The Nigerian Senate resumed its plenary session on Tuesday following a six-week recess. During the session, the Senate entered into a closed-door meeting to discuss various national issues. Among the top priorities on the agenda was the screening and confirmation of Olayemi Cardosos, who had been nominated by President Bola Tinubu for the position of Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Cardoso had assumed the role of acting CBN governor the previous week.

Additionally, the Senate intended to conduct the screening and confirmation of four new deputy governors in the committee of the whole. The nominees for these positions were Emem Nnana Usoro, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Bala M. Bello.

In his opening speech, Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged all aggrieved lawmakers to set aside their differences and work together under his leadership. He emphasized that unity was essential for achieving the progress that the country needed at this time.

The closed-door session and discussions in the Senate were expected to address critical national matters and appointments, with a focus on the nation's economic and financial leadership
