In a dramatic turn of events, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has publicly urged Mrs. Unoma Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, to stay out of the sexual harassment and intimidation allegations she has leveled against her husband. The dispute began when Akpoti-Uduaghan refused to sit in a designated seat during a Senate session, citing a breach of Senate Standing Rules. This sparked tension between the two, with Akpoti-Uduaghan later accusing Akpabio of blocking her motions, maligning her, and intimidating her after she allegedly rejected his sexual advances.
In a press conference, Mrs. Akpabio dismissed these allegations, asserting that both families had maintained a cordial relationship for years. However, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lawyer, Victor Giwa, issued a letter advising Mrs. Akpabio to refrain from further involvement in the matter. The letter emphasized that the allegations were personal to the Senate President and that he should be left to defend himself.
Akpoti-Uduaghan maintains that she has substantial evidence to support her claims, stating that while she had tolerated harassment from Akpabio in the past, she was now compelled to speak out. She advised Mrs. Akpabio to protect her family’s well-being by stepping aside and allowing her husband to address the allegations. Akpoti-Uduaghan remains resolute in defending Nigerian women and their rights within the political sphere.
