Edo State Police arrested the suspect behind the murder of UNIBEN graduate Glory Adekolure. The suspect, caught in Delta State, confessed to killing Adekolure and eight other women. Commissioner Funsho Adegboye confirmed the arrest, attributing it to the diligent work of the anti-kidnapping and cybercrime unit.
The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the individual suspected of murdering Glory Adekolure, a graduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN). Adekolure had gone to her school on June 13, 2024, for her final clearance, but her body was later discovered under a tree in the Iyowa Community of Benin City, near her residence.
The suspect was detained in Asaba, Delta State, 15 days after the tragic incident. During an interview with Channels Television on Friday, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, stated that the suspect admitted to killing Adekolure and at least eight other women.
“I am pleased to inform the public that the individual responsible for the murder of Glory Adekolure, a 22-year-old final-year Chemistry student at the University of Benin, has been captured,” Adegboye announced. “The suspect was apprehended in Asaba, Delta State. Following the murder of Glory, he fled, aware that we were pursuing him. Due to the meticulous efforts of our anti-kidnapping and cybercrime unit, he was arrested and has confessed to the murder of Glory and eight other women.”
Adegboye noted that the suspect has not yet been presented to the public, as the investigation is still ongoing. The arrest is a significant step towards justice for the victims and their families, bringing some relief to the community affected by these tragic events.
