In a distressing incident in the Chikakore community in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council, gunmen abducted two teenage sisters, aged 16 and 14, and have demanded a hefty N30 million ransom for their safe release.
The abductors, numbering around six, brazenly broke into the sisters' residence and forcibly took them into the nearby forests. Strikingly, the family received a chilling message as the brother, who was left behind, was sent home with the ransom demand.
This alarming kidnapping transpired despite the increased security presence in the area. The ICIR reached out to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, for comments, but as of now, there has been no response. Notably, the community had previously protested against the deteriorating roads, linking them to the success of criminal activities in the area.
The Bwari Area Council has witnessed a surge in abductions, prompting numerous residents to flee their homes. The escalating spate of kidnappings in 2024 alone, with at least 42 people abducted in the Bwari area, underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures and community development initiatives.
