In a swift response to the bandit invasion of the Sabon-Gida community in Zamfara's Bungudu Local Government Area, military forces have successfully rescued six out of the 24 abducted students from the Federal University Gusau, according to a top military source. This operation is being led by Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, the Commander of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Gusau, in collaboration with other security agencies. The operation has also resulted in the neutralization of several bandits and the recovery of weapons.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday when the gunmen launched their attack, targeting three student hostels and indiscriminately shooting. The anonymous student from the school who provided this information indicated that the majority of the abducted students, primarily female, were taken during the raid. The invasion sent shockwaves through the Sabon-Gida community.
The Zamfara State Police Command has also confirmed the student abductions but is yet to ascertain the exact number of students taken. This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges posed by banditry in the region and the critical need for coordinated efforts to ensure the safety of residents and educational institutions in Zamfara State.
