Splash FM 105.5, a radio broadcast station in Ibadan, Oyo State, has taken the step of banning songs by Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, from their airwaves. This decision comes in light of the ongoing investigation into the mysterious death of Naira Marley's former label signee, Mohbad.
The ban was revealed through a post on X (formerly Twitter) by one of the station's presenters, Aderonke Adesola. An internal memo from Splash FM's management explained that the ongoing police inquiry into Mohbad's death prompted the ban. The memo urged staff members to exercise caution due to the sensitivity of the situation and the ongoing criminal investigation. It stated that Naira Marley's songs would be classified as "Not to be Broadcast" on their station until further notice, effective immediately.
The decision to ban Naira Marley's music follows controversy surrounding Mohbad's sudden death at the age of 27. Mohbad had parted ways with Naira Marley's record label amid internal disputes and allegations of assault, and his untimely demise has raised questions and prompted police involvement. Splash FM's move reflects their commitment to handling the situation with care and discretion
