During a press conference, Thomas Inugonum, TCN's general manager for the Port Harcourt region, disclosed that the Transmission Company of Nigeria can presently transmit only 8,100MW out of the 13,000MW generated due to weak and aging infrastructure.
Inugonum expressed concern over persistent attacks on TCN facilities, emphasizing the dangers and economic repercussions.
Vandalism, particularly in states like Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Imo, and Rivers, has led to significant losses and hindered efforts to provide uninterrupted electricity.
He highlighted ongoing power projects in these states under the national integrated power project initiative, partly funded by TCN, Niger Delta Power Holding Company, and the World Bank.
Despite challenges, plans are underway to increase electricity supply to Rivers by an additional 100MW, aiming to reach a 500MW target by 2025
