Amidst a tragic incident in Delta State where 17 soldiers were ambushed and murdered by suspected residents of the Okuama Community, the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, has stirred controversy by implicating local monarchs in the heinous crime.
Despite denials from the Traditional Rulers Council of Chiefs in Ewu-Urhobo, Mr. Musa asserted that the involvement of Urhobo monarchs from the warring communities cannot be denied, suggesting complicity in the soldiers' deaths. The Defence Headquarters has declared eight suspects wanted, including the traditional ruler of Ewu Kingdom, Clement Ikolo, who surrendered himself to the police before being taken into army custody for questioning.
Meanwhile, Mr. Musa revealed shocking details about the soldiers' deaths, including dismemberment of their bodies and removal of private parts, attributing the attack to anger over efforts to curb illegal refineries and crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region.
As tensions escalate and investigations continue, questions arise about the security situation and local leadership's role in maintaining peace and stability.
