Tensions flared in Abule Egba, Lagos, as chaos erupted between irate Okada riders and Taskforce officials on Tuesday morning.
The catalyst for the clash was the seizure of motorcycles by the police, triggering outrage among the riders. Pandemonium gripped the area as Taskforce officers impounded numerous bikes for violating prohibited routes, prompting a swift retaliation from the Okada riders.
They regrouped and launched an assault, barricading the expressway with burning tires and obstructing traffic flow to Agege. Despite the Taskforce's withdrawal to avert escalation, the protesters persisted, disrupting normalcy and instigating confrontations with road users. The situation escalated until the intervention of the Oke-Odo Police Station, who restored order by dispersing the crowd with warning shots.
