The Nigerian Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos to facilitate critical repair and rehabilitation work. The closure is scheduled to take place from midnight on Saturday, October 21, until midnight on Sunday, October 22, 2023.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, released a statement detailing the plan to carry out comprehensive repairs on the bridge. In an effort to minimize disruption to the public, palliative works will be conducted on the most severely affected sections of the bridge along the Adeniji-bound carriageway. This will be a preliminary step to the more extensive repair works.

Motorists are encouraged to cooperate with traffic management officials and follow all diversion instructions to ensure smooth traffic flow. The Adeniji-bound section of the bridge will be closed to traffic during the period of palliative works, from midnight on Saturday, October 21, to midnight on Sunday, October 22. Drivers are also advised to consider using alternative routes during this time to minimize inconvenience.

The government's decision aims to address the current challenges on the bridge, improve safety, and ensure the longevity of this vital transportation link in Lagos
