The Federal Government has allocated N15 billion for the extensive repair of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, as revealed in the 2023 supplementary budget of N2.18 trillion. Additionally, the government has acknowledged an outstanding debt of N11.4 billion to the contractors responsible for the Eko/Marine Bridges.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olukorede Kesha, announced that repair work on the Third Mainland Bridge is set to commence on Monday, November 6, 2023. The bridge will be closed for a duration of five weeks, starting with the repair of the ramps connecting Oworoshoki to Adekunle and Lagos-Island (Adeniji Adele) to Adekunle.

Kesha emphasized that the mentioned ramps would be closed to traffic from 7 am on November 6, 2023, for the specified five-week period.

During the Ministry of Works' supplementary budget defense, Minister Senator Dave Umahi expressed concerns about the ongoing deterioration of bridges throughout the country. He highlighted the challenging state of road infrastructure, revealing that substantial funds had been spent, and significant debts remained unpaid, leaving a certificate of N1.6 trillion for inherited road infrastructure.
