President Bola Tinubu and former President Olusegun Obasanjo graced the inauguration ceremony of Governor Hope Uzodimma for his second term in Imo State. The event, held at Dan Anyiam Stadium, attracted a host of dignitaries, defying the ongoing sit-at-home event in the South-East.
Tinubu, who earlier attended the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day event in Abuja, landed at Owerri's Sam Mbakwe Airport around 1 pm on Monday. Accompanied by government officials, he was warmly welcomed by Governor Uzodimma and other Imo leaders. Obasanjo, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, was also spotted alongside other dignitaries at the ceremony.
The presence of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and the representative of Anambra governor Charles Soludo, Deputy Onyekachi Ibezim, added to the prominence of the occasion.
Despite the prevailing sit-at-home directive in the South-East, residents of Imo State defied it, turning out en masse for the swearing-in event. The streets were filled with color as they marched to the Dan Anyiam Stadium, showcasing a vibrant and celebratory atmosphere.
Governor Uzodimma secured a second term in office approximately two months ago, triumphing over his closest rivals Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP)’s Athan Achonu. The inauguration ceremony marked a significant moment in Imo State's political landscape, with political heavyweights Tinubu and Obasanjo playing central roles in the festivities.
As the political stage takes center focus, the presence of these influential figures raises questions about potential shifts and alliances within Nigerian politics, adding an intriguing layer to the unfolding narrative.
