On October 12, 2023, President Bola Tinubu appointed Mr. Ola Olukoyede as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for a renewable four-year term. This move comes after the suspension of the former EFCC chief, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, nearly four months ago. President Tinubu's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, confirmed the appointment.
Ola Olukoyede is a seasoned lawyer with more than 22 years of experience in regulatory compliance consulting, fraud management, and corporate intelligence. He has an extensive background in EFCC operations, previously serving as the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman from 2016 to 2018 and as the Secretary to the Commission from 2018 to 2023. His appointment aligns with the statutory requirements for the position of EFCC Chairman.
Additionally, President Tinubu appointed Mr. Muhammad Hammajoda as the Secretary of the EFCC for a renewable five-year term. Hammajoda is a public administrator with extensive experience in public finance management and holds degrees in Accounting and Business Administration.
The new EFCC leadership has been tasked with justifying the confidence placed in them, as they lead the fight against corruption within the framework of the President's Renewed Hope agenda. The appointments await Senate confirmation
