President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed nine new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The appointments are for a five-year term, subject to Senate confirmation. According to Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, these appointments were made under the authority vested in the President by the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act.

The new RECs and their respective states include Isah Shaka Ehimeakne for Edo State, Bamidele Agbede for Ekiti State, Jani Adamu Bello for Gombe State, and Dr. Taiye Ilayasu for Kwara State. The remaining appointees are Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi for Lagos State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for Nasarawa State, Prof. Mohammed Yalwa for Niger State, Dr. Anugbum Onuoha for Rivers State, and Mr. Abubakar Fawa Dambo for Zamfara State.

President Tinubu emphasized his expectation that the new appointees will maintain high standards of professionalism and ethical conduct in their roles. These appointments align with his vision to foster transparent, fair, and conflict-free electoral processes in Nigeria.
