President Bola Tinubu has commended Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, for his commitment to urban renewal and law enforcement in Abuja. Despite criticism over demolitions and land issues, Tinubu praised Wike as a "performing minister," emphasizing the importance of regulatory compliance in Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu has praised Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for his dedication to improving Abuja since taking office. In his first presidential media chat with senior journalists on Monday night, Tinubu commended Wike for his commitment to enforcing regulations in the capital, including his ongoing efforts to demolish illegal structures.

Addressing concerns over the controversies surrounding Wike’s governance, including allegations of land grabbing and revocation of land titles, President Tinubu defended the FCT Minister, stating that Wike’s actions were in line with his responsibility to ensure compliance with the law, a trait he emphasized is often lacking among Nigerians. Tinubu remarked, “Nyesom Wike is a good man, he is a performing minister,” and added that the nation often struggles with adhering to regulations, particularly in areas like paying ground rents on time.

Wike, who served as the Governor of Rivers State before being appointed FCT Minister in August 2023, has faced mixed reactions regarding his policies aimed at urban renewal and infrastructural development. Despite some criticism, Tinubu expressed support for his efforts, noting that Wike’s determination to uphold the law was necessary for progress in the FCT.

Since his appointment, Wike has implemented various initiatives, though his methods continue to spark both praise and controversy within the public.
