President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian citizens to embrace a shift in mindset, emphasizing the need for a change in values and attitudes to drive the nation's progress. During a meeting with the National Assembly leadership in Lagos, Tinubu challenged citizens to abandon rent-seeking behaviors and instead become more productive contributors to the economy.
The President lamented the prevalence of economic sabotage, such as the theft of rail tracks, electric cables, and smuggling activities, which undermine the country's development efforts. He stressed the importance of a nationwide campaign to transform the collective value system, urging Nigerians to change their perception of the nation.
"We must embrace the campaign to change our value system," Tinubu stated. "We must tell our people that the challenge we face is for all of us to change our mindset about our country."
Acknowledging the daunting challenges ahead, the President expressed his unwavering determination to steer Nigeria through the hardships. He emphasized the need to address issues like banditry, terrorism, and infrastructure deficiencies that impede agricultural productivity and food distribution.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who led the National Assembly delegation, commended Tinubu's purposeful leadership in his first year in office. He assured Nigerians that the legislature would review existing laws to further improve the ease of doing business in the country.
