President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the immediate suspension and investigation of Ms Halima Shehu, the National Coordinator and CEO of the National Social Investment Program Agency (NSIPA), following allegations of financial malfeasance.
The suspension marks a significant development just three months after the Senate confirmed Shehu's appointment. Dr Akindele Egbuwalo, the National N-POWER Program Manager, has been appointed in an acting capacity as NC/CEO during the investigation. Shehu, formerly the National Coordinator of the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, faces scrutiny over her tenure at the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development from 2017 to 2022.
The unfolding situation raises questions about the future leadership of NSIPA and the broader implications for social investment programs.
