Tonye Cole, a politician and businessman, claims Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, is intentionally weakening the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to eliminate its opposition to the APC. He criticizes the PDP for not addressing Wike’s role, despite his significant influence, which contributed to the party’s 2023 loss.
Politician and businessman Tonye Cole has accused Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, of actively working to weaken the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking on a podcast, Cole stated that it was well-known that Wike's current role was intended to diminish the PDP’s opposition to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Cole emphasized that the situation was an open secret, with both the PDP and APC aware of Wike’s actions. Despite this, he expressed surprise that the PDP had not taken more decisive action against Wike’s influence.
Wike, who lost the PDP presidential primary to Atiku Abubakar in 2022, later joined forces with other PDP governors to form the G5, which many believe contributed to the party’s defeat in the 2023 elections. Wike’s appointment as FCT Minister by President Bola Tinubu has further fueled divisions within the opposition party.
While some PDP members have criticized his role in the current administration, Wike has continued to affirm his loyalty to the PDP, despite his position in the APC-led government. The ongoing tensions within the PDP, particularly over Wike’s influence, have led to increased scrutiny of his political strategies.
