A tragic incident occurred in Yauri, Kebbi State when a hippopotamus fatally attacked Malam Usman Maigadi, a 60-year-old guard at Orchard Farm, owned by the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi. The attack happened on Sunday while Maigadi was fishing in the Yauri River at Tillo Village. It is believed the animal attacked in self-defense, perceiving the man as a threat to its young.
Alhaji Abubakar Shu’aibu, Chairman of Yauri Local Government, confirmed that Maigadi was buried according to Islamic rites. Governor Nasir Idris expressed his condolences to the Yauri Emirate and the bereaved family. He urged them to accept the loss as the will of Allah and prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased’s sins, asking Allah to grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
