A 32-year-old man, Lanre Ogungbe, was found dead in a hotel room in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred at Authentic Hotel on Soyoye Road, where the hotel’s manager alerted authorities after Ogungbe failed to check out.
According to SP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, the hotel receptionist raised concerns after noticing that Ogungbe had not been seen for some time. Upon investigation, his lifeless body was discovered on the bed, alongside an empty bottle of "Lakoko," a local alcoholic beverage, and a bottle of "Sniper," a pesticide.
The hotel owner reported the incident to the Lafenwa police station at approximately 3 p.m., detailing how the situation unfolded. Following the notification, police detectives promptly arrived at the scene, where they found no signs of foul play.
Ogungbe's remains were transported to the General Hospital in Ijaiye, where a medical examination confirmed his death. His body has been placed in the morgue pending a post-mortem investigation.
Odutola indicated that a thorough investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his death, while community members express concern over the safety protocols in local hotels.
