Another fan sustained injuries in the incident, which occurred in Lukaya town. Authorities are investigating the incident and searching for the guard and restaurant manager who fled.

Tragedy struck in Lukaya town, Uganda, when 30-year-old John Ssenyonga, an Arsenal fan, was fatally shot by a security guard while celebrating Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United on December 4. The incident occurred at a restaurant where a crowd of jubilant fans had gathered.

Reports indicate that the restaurant manager, upset by the noise, instructed the guard to intervene. Witnesses claimed that tensions escalated after the manager cut off power to the building. The fans reacted by making more noise, prompting the guard to allegedly open fire. Ssenyonga died instantly, while another fan, Lawrence Mugejera, sustained injuries and was hospitalized.

Both the security guard and the restaurant manager fled the scene following the shooting. Regional police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye confirmed the recovery of a firearm at the location and called on witnesses to assist in apprehending the suspects. He condemned the incident and urged fans to exercise restraint during celebrations.

The tragic event has left the local community in shock, and authorities are continuing their investigation. This incident underscores the need for better conflict resolution and crowd management during public gatherings.
