A terror group led by the notorious kingpin Damina has wreaked havoc in the community of Kwanar Dutse, Zamfara State. The ruthless assault claimed the lives of 10 residents, marking the gruesome culmination of the N20 million levy imposed by Damina weeks ago.
Witnesses recount the terror as hundreds of fighters, led by Damina, stormed the community after the evening Islamic prayer, indiscriminately shooting and leaving a trail of destruction.
The assailants, armed with superior weaponry, burnt down shops and houses during the hours-long attack. One resident, speaking anonymously for security reasons, described the terror, recounting how vigilantes tried in vain to defend the community.
The aftermath reveals not only the loss of lives but also the abduction of several residents by the terrorists. The region, plagued by what initially began as farmers-herders clashes, has now escalated into a grave situation of terrorism, locally termed as banditry.
The populace, especially in vulnerable communities, lives in constant fear as these terrorists routinely impose exorbitant levies, leading to dire consequences for those unable to comply.
The Zamfara State police spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, remains silent on the matter, raising concerns about the security response to these escalating acts of terror.
The incident echoes a disturbing trend in Nigeria's north-west region, where terrorism has resulted in widespread death and displacement, leaving communities grappling with the aftermath of heinous crimes
