A tragic road crash along the Zaria-Kano Expressway has claimed the lives of 12 individuals, with 28 sustaining injuries, according to Mr. Kabir Nadabo, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kaduna State Sector Commander.
The incident, involving a trailer with registration number KTG 454 ZZ, occurred at Tashar Yari village around 7:36 am on Monday. The crash was attributed to wrongful overtaking, speeding, and overloading. The injured were swiftly transported to Makarfi General Hospital for treatment. An investigation revealed that 40 people were involved, with 12 fatalities and 28 injuries.
The owner of the vehicle has been notified, and the driver, reportedly among the deceased, hailed from Azare, Bauchi State. Nadabo emphasized the need for continuous collaboration with transport stakeholders, advocating for road safety measures such as avoiding speeding, overloading, and dangerous driving. He urged motorists to prioritize safe driving practices, especially on highways.
This tragic incident follows a series of road accidents, underscoring the importance of ongoing safety initiatives by the FRSC in Kaduna.
