In Taraba State, a tragic boat accident unfolded as a vessel carrying 104 individuals, primarily local traders, capsized in the Benue River. Regrettably, this accident claimed the lives of seventeen passengers, while twelve individuals were successfully rescued from the water. The victims were predominantly local traders, including women and children, returning from the Mayorenero fish market in Ardo-Kola Local Government and en route to Binnari in Karim-Lamido Local Government, all within Taraba State.
Bashir Garga, the Director of Emergency Services at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), reported that rescue operations are ongoing to recover any remaining survivors. In the aftermath of the accident, some of the victims were laid to rest by the riverside at Mayoreneyo and Binnari. The acting chairman of inland water transporters in Taraba, Jidda Mayoreneyo, confirmed that six of the victims were buried in Mayoreneyo with their families' consent, while other victims were interred at Binnari, the site of the boat's tragic capsizing
