A tragic incident occurred at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi on the morning of July 26, resulting in the death of Naja’atu Salisu, a 300-level Computer Science student. Naja’atu was found unconscious on the floor of the bathroom in the female hostel at the Gubi campus. She had been preparing for her morning lectures and had entered the bathroom for a shower when the incident happened.
One of her roommates, who preferred to remain anonymous, described how Naja’atu had laid out her clothes for the day before entering the bathroom. When she failed to come out, concern grew, leading to the discovery of her unconscious body.
The ATBU Spokesperson, Zailani Bappa, confirmed the incident, stating that Naja’atu was initially rushed to the university's clinic for medical assistance. Unfortunately, the medical staff were unable to locate a vein to administer treatment, prompting an urgent transfer to the Trauma Centre at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital. Despite these efforts, Naja’atu was pronounced dead upon arrival.
In line with Islamic traditions, Naja’atu has been buried, and prayers have been offered for the repose of her soul. The university community mourns the loss of a promising young student, as friends and family cope with the sudden and unexpected tragedy.
The cause of her death remains unclear, with the incident raising questions and concerns among students and staff alike. The university is expected to conduct further investigations to understand the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking event.
