Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, former Minister of Women Affairs, has defended her tenure, asserting that she has no regrets about her actions while in office. Appointed in August 2023, her time as minister was marked by controversies, including her intent to sue the United Nations over alleged fund mismanagement. She was dismissed by President Bola Tinubu on October 23, alongside four other ministers.
Speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today, Ohanenye emphasized her commitment to making an impact. She highlighted her initiatives, such as setting up mobile courts and rescuing young girls from street hawking, despite budgetary constraints. She credited generous Nigerians for donating over ₦200 million to support these programs. However, she revealed that her dismissal occurred just two weeks after the funds were raised, leaving her unable to execute the planned initiatives. In response, she directed the reversal of the donations.
Ohanenye maintained that she performed her duties diligently and remained proud of her efforts. "There must be an impact on people. I’m glad I didn’t give any chance for deceit," she said. While reflecting on her short but eventful tenure, she reiterated her commitment to transparency and progress during her time in office.
