David Umahi, the Minister of Works and Housing, has issued an apology to the ministry's workers following a protest that ensued when he locked out late-arriving staff on Thursday at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing in Abuja.
Umahi arrived at the ministry complex before some directors and staff in the morning and denied them access to their respective offices.
Speaking to the protesters, Umahi expressed his apologies for the incident and emphasized the importance of discipline and punctuality in the workplace.
He stated, "I cannot do without you, and you cannot do without me." He mentioned that he had previously called on directors to address this issue of tardiness and stressed the need for cooperation to demand respect from contractors.
Umahi acknowledged that the incident may have upset some workers and expressed his desire for their support in addressing broader issues. He concluded by saying, "We must reset this country. This is the agenda of the renewed hope of Mr. President."
