The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has criticized Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, for taking President Bola Tinubu to court, claiming it's causing unwanted distractions for Easterners. Obi and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Atiku Abubakar, have approached the Supreme Court to challenge the decision of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), which affirmed Tinubu's victory in the February 25 election.
Umahi stated that the current administration has been kind to the Southeast and suggested that Obi's relentless attacks against Tinubu are detrimental to the region. He argued that the people of the region should be grateful to Tinubu because he has made unprecedented strides in the area. Umahi said that Obi's distractions are not helping the Southeast.
