Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested and detained Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar. Ndifon has been accused of sexually harassing female law students at the institution.
Protests had erupted within the university against Ndifon, leading to his suspension by the university's management while an investigation was launched into the allegations.
Ndifon defended himself, claiming that the protests were orchestrated by individuals within the faculty who were determined to discredit him. He denounced the allegations as baseless lies aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya confirmed the arrest and detention of Ndifon. He stated that Ndifon had repeatedly declined invitations to cooperate with the investigation. The arrest was carried out following a court order that granted the DSS permission to take him into custody, based on a request from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC).
Efforts to obtain comments from the ICPC's spokesperson, Azuka Ogugua, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting, as calls to her phone went unanswered
