Oyindamola Adeniyi, a Nigerian medical graduate, has been honored as the 2024 student orator at the University of York. Adeniyi, who received her medical degree from the university's Hull York Medical School, addressed over a thousand attendees, including graduates, families, and academics, during the graduation ceremony.
The annual student orator role at the University of York is reserved for outstanding individuals chosen through a competitive selection process. Adeniyi’s speech focused on themes of resilience, intentionality, and the transformative power of education. She reflected on her family's journey from Nigeria to the UK and emphasized the importance of making deliberate choices despite life's uncertainties.
Present at the ceremony were Adeniyi's family members, including her mother, Cleopatra Adeniyi, and her siblings, Doyinsola and Oyinkansola. Adeniyi's father, Abiodun Adeniyi, a professor at Baze University in Nigeria, was also in attendance.
Hull York Medical School, established in 2003, is part of the UK government's initiative to increase the number of medical professionals. The institution continues to play a vital role in medical education and training.
