The University of Nigeria (UNN) has suspended a senior lecturer, Mfonobong Udoudom, following allegations of inappropriate behavior involving a female student. Viral videos surfaced showing Udoudom in a panicked state, dressed only in his underpants, prompting investigations into the incident.
According to sources, Udoudom was allegedly caught attempting to engage in sexual activity with a married female student. It was further alleged that Udoudom had a history of coercing female students into sexual relationships to pass his courses.
The female student, in collaboration with her husband and university security, reportedly devised a plan to catch Udoudom in the act. Security agents intervened and caught Udoudom in his office, allegedly in the process of engaging in sexual activity with the student.
The UNN management has responded swiftly to the incident, suspending Udoudom indefinitely pending further investigation by a disciplinary panel. Okwun Omeaku, UNN's acting media spokesperson, emphasized the university's zero-tolerance policy towards sexual misconduct involving staff and students.
The suspension underscores UNN's commitment to safeguarding students from abuse and exploitation. The university has pledged to take appropriate disciplinary action against Udoudom if found guilty of the allegations.
The incident highlights the importance of addressing sexual misconduct within academic institutions and ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
UNN's decisive action sends a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated within the university community.
