Vice-President Kashim Shettima has officially inaugurated a 37-member Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage, chaired by former Head of Civil Service, Bukar Aji. The ceremony, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerian workers, as stated by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.
VP Shettima urged the committee to engage in genuine dialogue and collective bargaining, emphasizing the importance of their recommendations. The committee, supported by Minister of Finance Wale Edun, is tasked with presenting their decisions as an Executive Bill to the National Assembly. Chairman Aji expressed optimism about the committee's ability to create a fair, acceptable, and implementable minimum wage through extensive consultations with stakeholders.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, called for a collaborative and patriotic approach to address economic challenges and fulfill the commitment to review the national minimum wage, ensuring a living wage for all Nigerians.
