Bala Mohammed, Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, commended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for successfully conducting local government elections. He emphasized Fubara's commitment to democracy and the importance of cross-party collaboration, while also addressing internal challenges within the PDP and the need for reconciliation among party members.
Senator Bala Mohammed, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, has praised Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for successfully conducting local government elections, emphasizing Fubara’s commitment to democracy. Speaking during the swearing-in of 23 elected council chairmen in Port Harcourt, Mohammed commended Fubara for his proactive leadership and ability to foster democracy despite challenges.
Mohammed acknowledged that although Rivers State is governed by the PDP, the newly elected officials belong to various political parties. He stated that Fubara remains a dedicated member of the PDP and has effectively navigated a complex political landscape. The governor's approach, according to Mohammed, exemplifies a new era in Nigerian politics where collaboration across party lines is essential.
Highlighting the importance of respecting the role of a sitting governor, Mohammed argued against undermining Fubara’s position. He underscored that governors play a pivotal role in governance at the sub-national level and should be supported in their efforts to lead inclusively.
In addressing the PDP's internal challenges, Mohammed expressed optimism about future reconciliations, particularly with former Governor Nyesom Wike. He affirmed the party's commitment to unity and collaboration among its members, assuring that Fubara’s leadership would facilitate necessary partnerships for effective governance moving forward. Mohammed's remarks reflect a push for greater political cohesion within the PDP as it seeks to address its current dilemmas.
