In an unexpected turn of events, acclaimed rapper and activist Killer Mike found himself in police custody shortly after securing three Grammy Awards on Sunday.

The Hollywood Reporter captured the dramatic scene as Mike was handcuffed and led away from Crypto.com Arena, where he had just celebrated his victories at the Grammys' Premiere Ceremony. Los Angeles police spokesperson Officer Mike Lopez disclosed that the 48-year-old artist was involved in a dispute inside the venue around 4 p.m. and has been charged with a misdemeanor.

Mike was released on his recognizance at 8:37 p.m. and is set to appear in court on February 29. Despite the legal setback, Mike had earlier expressed his ageless honesty about his life, revealing his transformative journey from a drug dealer at 20 to a Grammy-winning artist and advocate for social justice. His wins included Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Album, marking a triumphant return to the Grammy stage after his last win in 2003.

The artist, known for his role in the duo Run the Jewels and as a social-political activist, has been a prominent voice on issues of racial justice and Black empowerment.

The arrest has left fans and the music industry in shock, overshadowing what should have been a night of celebration for Killer Mike.
