Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu personally intervened in a case of traffic violation, arresting a soldier and several commercial motorcyclists, commonly known as Okada riders, for driving against traffic along the busy Lagos-Badagry expressway.
Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor, Wale Ajetunmobi, shared videos of the incident on social media, revealing that the arrests took place on the morning of January 2, 2024. According to Ajetunmobi, the Governor's convoy encountered lawless Okada riders who promptly abandoned their motorcycles and passengers upon seeing the Governor.
In one video, Governor Sanwo-Olu is heard ordering his security officers to apprehend a lance corporal in the Army who was among the offenders. The ensuing chaos saw some riders attempting to flee, leaving their passengers behind. In the video, Governor Sanwo-Olu sternly addresses a female passenger, highlighting the dangers of reckless driving and expressing frustration with the ongoing traffic violations.
The incident brings attention to the Governor's commitment to enforcing traffic rules and maintaining road safety in Lagos.
