Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has revealed that illegal miners operating in the state are likely responsible for the Tuesday night's explosion in Ibadan. Preliminary investigations indicate that explosive devices stored by these illegal miners in one of the houses caused the tragic incident.
In a statement posted on his verified X Page (formerly Twitter), Governor Makinde confirmed two casualties and 77 injuries, with ongoing treatment in public and private hospitals.
The governor pledged to bring those responsible to justice and assured that the state government would cover medical bills for the injured. Additionally, he directed hotels to accommodate those displaced by the blast, emphasizing comprehensive search and rescue operations throughout the night.
As rescue efforts continue, the governor urged residents to remain calm and away from the scene.
