Amid growing concerns over the surge in kidnappings and insecurity across Nigeria, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, addressed the public in an interview on Channels Television, asserting that there is no rise in kidnapping incidents in the southwestern part of the country.
Adejobi attributed the reported cases to the region's topography and waterways, emphasizing the interconnected nature of water routes leading to states like Delta, Port Harcourt, and Bayelsa.
He further challenged the authenticity of many online reports, claiming that a significant number of kidnapping cases shared on social media are either staged or fabricated. Adejobi urged the public to approach discussions on security matters with an open mind, emphasizing the need for informed dialogue to comprehend the nuances of crimes such as kidnapping, abduction, armed robbery, organized crimes, and arranged assassinations.
The PPRO's statements seek to dispel misconceptions and encourage a more nuanced understanding of the security situation in the Southwest.
