The Ogun House of Assembly witnessed a major shakeup as Speaker Olakunle Oluomo was impeached by 18 out of 26 lawmakers during a plenary session presided over by Deputy Speaker Mrs. Bolanle Ajayi. The Assembly swiftly elected Mr. Oludaisi Elemide, currently representing Odeda State Constituency, as the new Speaker.
The motion for Oluomo's impeachment was initiated by APC lawmaker Adegoke Adeyanju, seconded by Ademola Adeniran, representing Sagamu II State Constituency. Elemide, addressing the press after his election, emphasized the Assembly's commitment to lawfulness, dispelling rumors of Governor Dapo Abiodun's involvement.
Lawmaker Damilola Soneye highlighted reasons for the impeachment, citing gross misconduct, high-handedness, lack of transparency, financial misappropriation, and inciting members against one another. The Clerk, Deputy Clerk, and heightened security presence underscored the significance of this political upheaval in Ogun State.
