Nigerian man's viral TikTok video boasting about being deported from over 12 countries sparks outrage. Many accuse him of promoting criminal behavior, tarnishing Nigeria's image abroad through alleged illicit activities like drug trafficking.
A Nigerian man's bizarre boast about being deported from multiple countries has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and bewilderment online.
In a TikTok video that has racked up millions of views, the unidentified man lists off over a dozen nations he claims to have been kicked out of, including Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea. "Which country hasn't deported me?" he asks in the clip, chuckling. "I've been deported from all these countries."
The man, who appears to be in his 20s or 30s, seems to revel in this rather dubious "achievement." He even ends the video by speaking a few words in Igbo, one of the major Nigerian languages.
However, most commenters did not find his deportation narrative quite so amusing. Thousands criticized the young man, accusing him of bringing shame to Nigeria through alleged criminal behavior abroad. "This is not a flex bro, work on it. There is something wrong somewhere!" one commenter scolded. "Why are you bragging about countries that send you away? Shame on him," another user wrote.
Several implied that frequent deportations suggest involvement in unlawful activities like drug trafficking or other illicit trades that have tarnished Nigeria's image internationally. "What are you doing in Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia? You guys keep going to people's homes to spoil the name of Nigeria," a commenter remarked.
While some tried to make light of the situation with jokes, many found the pride the man seemed to take in his deportation record deeply unsettling and unpatriotic. The video also highlighted the struggles Nigeria faces with illegal activities by its citizens overseas that can reinforce negative stereotypes and strain diplomatic relations.
As the backlash mounted, some questioned whether the man's claims were even truthful or just an ill-conceived attempt at online notoriety. But either way, his bizarre boast did not go over well.
