Nyesom Wike has rebuffed Atiku Abubakar’s criticisms over Rivers State's local government elections, labeling the former vice president a “serial loser.” Wike argued that Atiku’s past electoral defeats reflect a broader rejection by Nigerians, emphasizing that while he didn’t contest the recent elections, Atiku's losses speak volumes.
In a recent political showdown, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor of Rivers State launched a sharp rebuttal against Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate for the 2023 elections. Wike labeled Atiku a “serial loser” after Atiku criticized him over the recent local government elections in Rivers State, where the Action Peoples Party (APP) clinched 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions.
Atiku had suggested that the APP's victory indicated Wike's declining popularity among constituents. However, Wike countered this claim during a luncheon celebrating the 10th Legislative Assembly of Rivers State. He stated, “We never contested local government elections,” implying that Atiku's assessment of his popularity was unfounded. He emphasized that while Atiku has faced defeat in both the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections, it reflects a broader rejection by Nigerians.
Wike further challenged Atiku's assertions, stating, “If you say for an election we did not contest... you that contested and failed woefully, Nigerians have rejected you, therefore pack and go home.”
