Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), shed light on the strained relationship between him and Senator Ireti Kingibe, the representative of FCT in the Senate.

This revelation comes amid ongoing friction between the two officials, dating back to their tenure in office.

Notably, in September 2023, Kingibe challenged Wike's authority to issue threats of demolishing "illegal" structures in the territory, questioning his executive powers.

Furthermore, in January, Kingibe accused Wike of neglecting her communications regarding the rising insecurity in Abuja.

Wike attributed Kingibe's discontent to his close association with Philip Aduda, her predecessor in the Senate, revealing that she coveted the position of chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT.

Refusing to be coerced into friendship, Wike defended his alliances and affirmed his commitment to inclusive governance. Emphasizing his transparency, Wike highlighted his efforts to engage the FCT committee chairpersons in key projects, asserting his independence from external influence.

He urged Kingibe to prioritize effective communication to address grievances, dismissing accusations of favoritism as unfounded. As tensions persist, Wike remains steadfast in his resolve to uphold governance principles and foster collaboration for the betterment of the FCT.
