The World Bank has given the green light for a new $700 million loan to support the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment program in Nigeria. This initiative aims to enhance secondary education prospects for girls in targeted states.
With the additional financing, the project will expand its reach from seven to eleven additional states and include out-of-school girls, married girls, and those with disabilities. Over the years, the program has already led to an increase in the number of girls in secondary schools and improvements in infrastructure, including renovated classrooms, water, sanitation, and solar panels.
The loan, which will impact more than 15 million students and various stakeholders, aligns with Nigeria's efforts to bridge gender gaps and promote economic growth through education and skill development for adolescent girls.
