Miguel Ángel López Días, popularly known as Rey Misterio Sr., has died at age 66. The legendary luchador, who played a pivotal role in Mexican wrestling, passed away just weeks after the death of his brother, Robert Gutierrez, Rey Mysterio’s father.
Misterio Sr., born in Tijuana, Mexico, began his career in boxing before transitioning to professional wrestling in 1976. Renowned for his high-flying style and masked persona, he became a household name in Lucha Libre and a mentor to many, including his nephew Rey Mysterio, a WWE Hall of Famer.
His contributions to the sport extended beyond the ring, as he trained future wrestling stars and solidified his family’s legacy in wrestling history. Misterio Sr. retired in 2009 after a career spanning over three decades.
