Bandits killed 12 villagers and seven policemen in Magarya, Zamfara State. The attackers, about 300 in number, targeted the village in retaliation for police preventing their activities for over two years. Commissioner Muhammad Shehu Dalijan confirmed more police personnel will be deployed to enhance security.
Bandits launched a deadly attack on Magarya village in Zamfara State on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of 12 villagers and seven policemen. Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, the state Commissioner of Police, confirmed the incident and detailed that the attack occurred in the Zurmi Local Government Area. Among the victims were a member of the Zamfara State Community Guards, known as Askarawan Zamfara, and four residents.
According to Dalijan, around 300 bandits arrived on motorbikes, quickly surrounded the village, and opened fire on the police officers stationed there. The assailants' motive was believed to be retribution, as the police presence had thwarted their criminal activities for over two years. "Since the deployment of police to the area, the bandits could not have a chance to attack the village," Dalijan explained.
The commissioner emphasized the resilience of the police force, stating that additional personnel would be dispatched to the region to bolster security and prevent further attacks. This tragic event underscores the ongoing struggle between law enforcement and armed bandits in Zamfara State, highlighting the urgent need for reinforced security measures to protect vulnerable communities.
