Authorities have arrested and detained 28 officers of the Nigeria Customs Service for the part they played in a conspiracy to smuggle a container of arms and ammunition into the country via the Tin Can island port in Lagos.
A container of over 1,500 arms of different shapes and sizes was seized at the Tin Can Island command of the customs on Wednesday.
It's reported that customs officers had manipulated paperwork to ensure that the container passed through the border without hassle.
Investigation into the matter is on. Vanguard says some of the officers might be left off the hook if it is discovered that they had no idea what's in the container and their involvement is only in the paperworks.
