A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck an area near the Mediterranean Sea, an estimated 50 miles southwest of Avsallar, Turkey.
The Istanbul-based Kandilli seismology center said the earthquake occurred at 5:21 p.m. The event caused panic but no damages or casualties were reported.
The quake struck at a relatively shallow depth of 32 miles (51 kilometers) in the seismically active region, it said.
People reported that their household items were shaking and a video aired by a Turkey-based station showed chandeliers shaking.
